Services We Provide
The original intent in establishing Community Memorial Hospital was the development of an acute care facility. Through the years, the hospital has sought to continually upgrade the quality and numbers of services it provides. The hospitals affiliation with major medical centers and health care agencies had allowed it to expand its health care services through a network that begins at the local level. Community Memorial Hospital is a 25 bed facility, equipped with 2 emergency treatment rooms, on-site lab, radiology, CT and physical therapy services.
Acute Care - Acute care is active but short term treatment of severe injury, episodes of illness or recovery from surgery, that requires around-the-clock care that can not be provided for in a person's home. Patients can be directly admitted from our Emergency Department, another health-care facility or from a clinical setting, like a doctor's office. Emergency Department - Level V - Emergency care is provided by highly trained local providers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The physicians are supported by registered nurses, lab and x-ray technicians. Community Memorial Hospital is prepared to handle any emergency from a laceration to a major heart attack or trauma. With state-of-the-art equipment and certified and professionally trained personnel, the hospital can provide complete care and treatment from the time of the injury or illness to recovery. In situations where complete care cannot be provided at the local level, we are able to transport our patients in a stable and timely manner to major facilities where the necessary care can be provided. This transfer may be accomplished through local ground ambulance services.
Avera e-Emergency Program - Avera e-Emergency is a new way to provide improved quality care for rural hospitals. When requested by staff, e-Emergency allows an emergency care physician from miles away assist the local medical staff in the treatment of a patient with any level of care needed. Both emergency rooms are equipped with a video conferencing system, including cameras and microphones, transmitted over a secure network. When initiated, the camera turns on to face the patient and the e-Emergency staff introduces themselves. When the camera is off, it is turned toward the wall, or away from the patient. Protected Health Information (PHI) is not released to anyone other than those involved in patient care and no recordings are ever made from the cameras or microphones. E-Emergency provides support as needed while allowing the local providers to continue to make all final decisions. There are no service costs passed on to the patient.
Swing Bed - The hospitals swing bed program is an extended stay program providing all services that are available within the hospital. Medical professionals include physicians, registered nurses, and registered physical therapists. Frequently, such services are paid for by Medicare and Medicaid or commercial insurance companies. For more information, contact the Social Services Designee.
Intermediate Care Swing Bed - Intermediate care is also included in the swing bed program at Community Memorial. Patients in this level of care require moderate or extended care assistance in activities of daily living. This program of care is often paid for by Medicaid or by the patient. Check with the Social Services Designee.
Respite Care - Respite care is specifically designed as support for families who provide care to family members who are physically or mentally handicapped. When an activity, such as a vacation or a family outing is planned, and the handicapped member is unable to attend, the respite care program provides care for the handicapped family member for up to two weeks. A minimum of one overnight stay is required for use of this care program.
Adult Day Care - Adult day care is designed for individuals requiring care on a daily or hourly basis. If a family member who is taking care of a physically or mentally handicapped family member needs a day off, adult day care provides medical care for the disabled family member. This service is provided Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information regarding this service, please contact Community Memorial.
Hospice - Hospice care is a specifically designed program for patients who are in the end stages of a terminal disease or condition. Each patient and family works with specially trained hospice nurses to develop a program to fit the patients specific medical needs and ethical wishes. The hospice staff and family work with the patient before admission, during the hospital stay and continue to work with the family after the patient has died.
Home Health Care - Home Care is a program of care designed to assist the patient with medical needs while in his or her home. As part of this care, such services as visiting nurse care, homemakers services, home oxygen, and physical therapy are offered. Contact your physician for these services or our Social Services Designee.
Digital X-ray - X-Ray films are a thing of the past! No more waiting for films to process and hand carry them from doctor to doctor. Community Memorial offers digital x-rays that can be securely transmitted to any requesting provider, local or distant, within minutes. This provides our patients with local, quality care, saving time and money.
Laboratory - Our lab is staffed for walk-ins Monday thru Friday 8am - 5pm and available for emergency services 24/7, 365 days a year. With our lab services, any provider can request patient labwork at Community Memorial and have the results securely transmitted back to them. This allows for patient convenience when labwork requires fasting or for those who have difficulty with mobility. EKG - Electrocardiograms (also known as ECG) are essential for checking the electronic activity of the heart. Our trained personnel are available around the clock to provide immediate care when needed.
CT Scan - Computed Tomography uses x-rays to make detailed pictures of structures inside the body. This allows for a provider to see an injury and start a care plan immediately, rather than take the "wait and see" approach or resort to more invasive testing. Our CT Scanner is available for scheduled procedures during business hours, as well as on-call emergency services any other time of day.
